Home again, home again, jiggity jig..

Wow! Hawaii was beautiful and...rainy. But even though the weather was bad, and Sean was still in healing mode, we had a great time. The animals all fared well without us, thanks to the superb care of Sue at Animal Care Specialists. If you live in the Sacramento area and need an expert and caring pet sitter, call Sue. We love her.

I did a little knitting on the plane and should have some pictures this week. I have a feeling things are going to be a bit hectic at work this week, so I 'm not sure when I'll post them.

More later...

Thanks everybody!

Thanks everybody for your comments. I'm slowly catching up and getting ready for our trip.

Sean is home and doing much better, but still swollen and in a lot of pain. Lesson learned: if an animal bites you, go directly to the emergency room. It may not look that bad, but it could turn serious so fast you won't believe it.

I have not knitted in so long I'm not sure I know how. I don't even have a project to take with me! I'm gonna have to start something tomorrow, that's for sure. Most likely a sock.

Well, I have to start taking down the Christmas tree. We slacked the weekend we usually do it, and then things got away from us. We are both lazy procrastinators, and I've been very disorganized and scattered lately. That's ok if other things are moving along as planned, but throw an emergency in there and it's all over.

There probably won't be another post until February, and hopefully it will be all GOOD news!

What better time to have surgery than a week before you leave for vacation?

You would think that we would just about have run out of bad luck by now. But, no.

Last Saturday, on a lovely walk by the levee, we came across a cat. Now cats, particularly house cats, should not be on the levee because they will get eaten by something. It's a long story that he'll probably want to tell himself, but, while trying to get a look at the cat's tags to see if we could locate the owner, Sean was bitten.

By Sunday, his hand looked a little swollen, but not horrible. By Sunday evening, he was in enough pain to make an appointment to see the Dr. on Monday. By 4 a.m. Monday morning it was bad enough that he took himself to the emergency room (where he got mad and left before getting treatment, but that's a whole other story). By they time his appointment came around, there was redness running up his arm and he was in a lot of pain.

Monday afternoon, he had surgery on his hand, and he'll most likely come home from the hospital tomorrow.

The good news, is that he won't be on IV antibiotics for the whole week, and he won't lose his hand or go septic. And, we were just trying to make a decision about whether or not we should take our golf clubs to Hawaii with us. All signs now point to "no."

He'll be fine, and he's chipper and alert now that they've taken him off whatever liquid drugs he was on. It was like talking to a heroin addict there for a while. Or, what I imagine talking to a heroin addict would be like, based on my experience of seeing them on a recent TV documentary.

I can't wait for him to come home. Hospitals are awful places.

Testing...

This evening for some reason I decided to upgrade my Movable Type. This is my first test entry. Comment Spammers be gone!

It went more smoothly than I thought it would, and only took about 2 hours.

But, let's see if this works.

I have not been knitting, and by not thinking about knitting or blogging or reading blogs, I feel like I have so much more time. And that's just what I need right now.

I'm so so so so busy, worked late most days last week and then went in yesterday for half a day. We're installing a new server and getting new notebook computers and I'm in charge of it all and it's not going well. Many things are going wrong and, while not my fault, still happened to my project!

Note to self: Never try to move the office to a new building that is just finishing up being constructed, while at the same time rolling out an IT project the day after a terrible storm takes out your Internet connection by toppling and breaking the antenna on your roof.

Things got so out of hand last week that the guy in charge of setting up our system QUIT! Or he got fired, they won't tell me which. I personally think he couldn't bear the thought of comming back and seeing what else could go wrong.

Today, I did the minimum laundry, grocery shopping, and updated my MT installation. Whoo Hooo!

One more week until vacation. I hope I make it!
