Crazy

How crazy is it that I want to rip and re-knit that lacy alpaca scarf?

I wanted to give this scarf to a friend of mind for her birthday, but I missed the day, and I just don't like the bit of ribbing in the middle that makes it a seaman's scarf.

I thought about this while I was knitting it also, but...it's just another example of me not following my gut, and blindly following the pattern. Will I ever learn?

Right On.

My friend Doug has stepped up to model the too-small prototype hat.

Thanks man!

Getting an entry in

Knitting....hmmm...yes.

I'm between projects now, and at kind of a loss as to what to do. The only thing on my needles at the moment is that mitered rug, and for some reason I am loathe to pick it up and knit on it. Yuck. Just don't wanna.

I have been trying to knit a lace cap for a friend, like the one from the Rowan Calmer Collection, but, because I can't afford the book I had to extrapolate from free patterns and try to come up with something close. Which I did, but then I made the hat too short but also too big around. I have a problem with hats. I find them difficult.

Anyway, I gave my little prototype away last night, so no pictures. I'm going to try to make another one though so maybe you'll get a peek at that.

I'm also still trying to swatch my Estate Sale yarn, and decide what I want to sell. I just feel like I have had no time for knitting lately. And it's so not true! I am just unorganized and don't know what I want to knit next. I plan to get over it soon.

A day

I finished the scarf last night, but have yet to weave in the ends. I need to seriously block it too, and I haven't figured out yet how I'm going to do that. The only flat surface big enough is the bed and there are usually three cats on it, so, maybe the floor of my yarn room. It's pretty much the only room in the house that has a door you can close. Ok. There. Figured it out. That is now on my list for tomorrow.

Today we got up early because the painters were coming over to FINALLY finish. While they were here I ran some errands (Peet's, Petco, (thrift store--not really an errand!) and Trader Joes.

Then I came home and shelled walnuts for an hour. I have some friends that have a walnt tree in their backyard and they didn't want the walnuts! That's just crazy.

After we took the dogs to the park, I made dinner--Butternut Squash Risotto. YUM. And, now I'm blogging.

After this, I'm going over to another friend's house to watch 3 episodes of Knitty Gritty that they recorded for me. I'm going over there even though they won't be there. It will just be me and their dog. Isn't it great I have such nice friends that they record a show they have no interest in and let me come over to watch it, even when they're not there, because if I don't it will start to record over one of them? I think so too!

Regrets, I have a few.

This is all I have left to do on the lacey alpaca scarf:

lacyalpacascarf2.JPG

and yet...I can't seem to finish it! That tiny amount of yarn is all I have left. A few days ago I did have to rip out about 2 inches when I realized that I had (once again!) messed up the laced pattern. I keep somehow mixing up the start of one row with the ending of the other. This is a very noticable screw-up, IF you spread out your knitting once in awhile and actually look at it to see if the pattern looks right. Any way, now, NOW, after all that I've knit on this scarf I think I have the pattern down pat.

I also have some regrets about making it a Seaman's Scarf, but I think it will look a lot better after it's blocked.

So that's about it for knitting.

In other news, we are in the process of getting our house painted (outside) and it is sure taking a long time. Sometimes the painters show up, sometimes they don't. Sometimes they show up and actually do work, sometimes they sit in the driveway (for 3.5 hours) "waiting for tools." Meanwhile, Sean and I are alternating time off from work to be here (because neither one of us wants to have the house empty while workmen are here). Also annoying, is the fact that all the windows and doors are taped over with plastic and paper so it's a little claustrophobic (today is the 4th day of being taped up).

So today is my day home. I have list of things I want to accomplish, but it's not looking good at this point. I need to turn off the TV and get moving.

Right after Animal Miracles.

Pie Barrier

Sometimes Sean can't achieve the high scores he's used to when playing Counter Strike online. Here's why:

You can't tell from the picture, but she is "making biscuits" on his chest and using her claws.

Also of note, that's the deep blue we painted the walls of the TV room, and Gretsky sitting on his little rug.
