Booga Pie

Here is the bag, before fulling. I've included a cat for scale.*

Click here for a detail of the pretty brown varigated yarn.

I will most likely send this through the wash this weekend.

*HA HA! Moon Pie is actually a double-wide cat.

The Booga Bag Experiment

Had a nice relaxing weekend that both zoomed by and seemed really long. My body clock has already reset itself for daylight savings time, so I was an extra-early to bed, extra-early to rise person this weekend.

I've had it in my mind to make a Booga Bag for a long time now, but I couldn't afford the Noro yarn. I've collected a few feltable wools at thrift stores, and I finally thought I had enough to make a bag. And I did! The problem is that I don't have enough for the handles. So, I'm either going to try to find another yarn for the handles, or possibly canabalize an old purse. Haven't decided yet. Oh, and I did not knit a swatch first, so I could have some unpredictable results when I actually run it through the wash. But that's why it's an experiment.

I'll try and post pictures tomorrow.

Ahhhh Friday...

Well, I couldn't talk myself into going to exercise class yesterday. I did go home and pull the covers over my head, snuggled up with the cat, and took about an hour-long nap. I got up for a little while, but ended up going back to bed at around 9:00 p.m.

Whenever the weather changes to rain really quick like that, I get a killer sinus headache. That, coupled with what I've determined to be sciatica just made me want to hibernate for a little while. I've never had back trouble in my life and now in the space of two weeks I've had hip pain and lower back pain. I feel old and creaky.

No major knitting. I started another square for the MDK Afghanalong. I'm not in the mood for a big project right now.

I don't want to knit. I feel blah. It's raining. I just want to go home and pull the covers over my head.

I'm sure this too shall pass. I'm going to have to REALLY talk myself in to going to exercise class tonight.

Buyers Remorse

I'm feeling mildly remorseful about yesterdayís yarn buying frenzy. I think I'm going to put a lot of it on ebay. Here's the whole haul:

What would you do if you saw all of this at your local St. Vincent de Paul? No way I could pass this stuff up, right?

I'm not going to post close-ups of everything because I haven't yet figured out how to do thumbnails, but here's my favorite yarn of the lot:

Click for a close-up of the lusciousness.

I'm thinking I might try to make a little scarf or something. There's not much of it, but it's so nice to knit with. I'm also working on a critter blanket to get at least one entry in the Critter Knit-a-thon. This is one event where it would help to have a knitting machine. Here's what I have so far. It's 100% acrylic, but it's soft and cushy, and pretty.

Yesterday Picabou started limping pretty badly. We're not sure what happened because she seemed fine when we walked home from the park, but later that evening she was definitely limping. She didn't seem any better this morning and when she got up from her bed I heard two distinct popping noises coming from her, like her joint was popped out of place. Nothing is swollen she isn't complaining, and we've touched and examined her paw and leg everywhere. We think maybe she has the equivalent of a sprained ankle. So, no park today, and maybe no walk in the morning for the Bootygirl.

Ok now, off to enjoy what's left of my Sunday!

Thrift shopping as mood enhancer

Yesterday, I got the second worst hair cut of my life. There was a severe miscommunication between me and the hairstylist, and she did that thing where she turned my chair sideways so I couldn't see what she was doing until it was too late. It wasn't until it was dry and she started using the curling iron on me that I knew something was wrong. I am never going to have another hairstyle that involves a curling iron. I have this awful helmet head thing going on now that just pains me to no end. It just feels bad on my head, and when I catch glimpses of myself in the mirror I look about 10 years older.

In addition to the angst about my hair, I was filled with ennui today about housecleaning. Most people get energized with the coming of spring; I start to feel like a sloth. All I felt like doing was sitting outside in the sun. Not reading, not knitting, just sitting. I did a little bit of organizing and laundry, and then I sat. About 2:30 p.m. I decided I needed a nap. I woke up at the dot of 3:00 p.m. and felt I needed to immediately go to a thrift store. So I did, and I made the biggest yarn score of my life!

I went to the back of the store where the knitting stuff usually is, and there was a lot to choose from! I bought several balls of unknown wool, and 8 skeins of Reynolds Andean Alpaca! I'm sure there's enough to make a sweater. As I was walking to the front of the store to pay, I passed by a huge mound of yarn in the middle of the aisle. I actually gasped. Lots of designer yarns, some new, some vintage, in goodly amounts! I had to use two shopping baskets to cart it all to the cash register. Some of it I'm going to keep, and some of it I'm going to sell on ebay.

Iíve spent the last hour Googling and searching on ebay for these yarns just to see what I have and what itís all worth. There are a number that I canít find any information on. I think they are most likely discontinued yarns.

Pictures tomorrow when I get time. Now Iím off to knit a few sample swatches. I love trying out new (to me) yarn.

The knitting ho-hums

No real knitting news. I am currently experiencing the knitting ho-hums. I knit about three rows on the rug last night before The Sopranos came on. What a disappointment this season is turning out to be. Is it just me or is this show now completely uninteresting and boring? I found myself nodding off halfway into it. I really think they did themselves in by taking such a long time off.

Speaking of uninteresting and boring, why did I ever think knitting a rug was a good idea? Itís hard to knit, the ric-racky yarn tangles all the time and I dread working on it. Still, Iím plugging along. Iím just not feeling very inspired to start anything else.

The blog work never ends

Now that I've got the banner all figured out, I will slowly be attending to all the other things around here that don't work, like archives, and how to make a separate page for my kntting and other projects. I will get it all done eventually, it's just going to take some time.

I sent three squares off in the mail today for the MDK Afghanalong. I wanted to do more, but I figured that was a good amount to start. And, 3 is a magic number anyway.

On Monday, our cable was out when I got home from work. That meant no TV and no internet. I discovered that I cannot knit in a quiet room. I need TV, radio, audiobook or something else going on. So I settled in happily to read my book.

A few hours later, Sean came home, and the exact instant he stepped through the doorway, the cable popped back on. I never knew he had that much power over TV. No wonder he always gets the remote.

The kindness of strangers

As you can see there is a new banner developing up there!

The nice person behind CitrusMoon created this banner and sent it to me out of the goodness of her heart and love of a good chicken-in-a-hat picture. If that isn't Happy Good Luck, I don't know what is.

(It's my fault it looks slightly strange at the moment, but she's working with me to fix that also! Things might look on-and-off wonky around here for awhile.)

Thank you so much. I love it!

The Lion King

Is that a lion in the front yard?

I got off early from work yesterday, and when I got home Sean was home too. We made a spur of the moment decision to take both dogs to PetsMart and get them groomed. We also made a spur of the moment decision to get Gretsky groomed like a lion. It really works from the back. But from the front or side... well, see for yourself.

He's really much happier than he looks! We've been laughing all day about it. He's so cute! He's the Lion King.

While the dogs were getting groomed, I cleaned the kitchen, mopped the floor, and washed the dog beds. Then we rented two movies (American Splendor, and X-Men 2), made a special trip to Albertson's for Boylan's Black Cherry Soda, and stopped off at Target, all in the name of killing time before picking up the dogs. And still, by the time we went back to PetsMart, Grets had yet to be trimmed. So we shopped in PetsMart and watched the groomer until she was done. It took FOREVER. By the time we got home and started the movie, we were so tired that we both fell asleep during American Splendor, which is not the most exciting of movies anyway.

Today was a beautiful spring-like day here in Sac. I didn't do much housework at all on account of the weather. It was too beautiful to say inside. We made a trip to Capital Nursery and Sean bought a lot of plants for the front and back yards. I grocery shopped, took the dogs to the park, and then sat outside in the sun reading a magazine.

I'm going to start knitting as soon as I finish this entry.

Cool site

I found a great site for interesting graphics (mostly tiles and backgrounds). The site is Citrus Moon and it's where I got the above graphic, which I find both creepy and delightful! I spent hours looking around the site last weekend, and that was just looking at the graphics. I could spend hours more happily reading her site and following all the links she provides.

I've added a link to my old site over there in the sidebar, in case anyone wants to see it.

No knitting last night, but I did gather some spare yarn supplies to make more squares for the Afghanalong. Here's a picture of the first square I've completed.

Although I could have done a better job with the borders, I think it's cute. It's the first time I've ever knit with two colors. I'm going to wait and send this one on once I get a few more completed.

Get a March entry in there, will ya!

Ok, so. Worked a little bit today on trying to create a colorful, distinctive, tasteful and happy banner for this blog. I was unsuccessful. I'm starting to think I'm going to have to pay someone for an interesting looking blog. Will somebody please wake up curiousminddesign? I need an estimate.

click make big

Last night I knitted about 4 rows on my rug. (That's the old picture above, add about two inches in to that in your imagination please.) I'm becomming very bored with this project. Three strands of yarn, with two of them being very ric-rack like does not make for a fast knit. I have to be very deliberate with each stich.

I'm not in the mood to start another big project, so I think I'm going to knit a few more squares for the Afghanalong being hosted over there at Mason-Dixon Knitting . There are fabulous prizes to be won!
