25 April 2003 Meet my new neighbor, John Michael!
John Michael's parents, Rob and Kasey, were nice enough to supply me with a picture of the little cutie in the hat I gave him. Isn't he adorable? Thanks guys, the picture made my day!
19 April 2003 Only the sleeves to go on Bob. I was binding off the back last night with about 10 stitches to go, and the power went out. I tried to finish by candlelight but I just couldn't do it, so I had to wait until this morning.
I don't know why the picture came out like this. It looks like the yarn is variegated. It's just a plain blue.
Since there is no other news, here's a picture of our climbing rose.
12 April 2003 I made some buttons, but now I'm kind of ambivalent about them and I'm not sure they will work. I think the one on left is pretty, while the one on the right is more me. I like the juxtaposition of Happy Good Luck with the dour expression on Henny. Anyway, it was a fun experiment learning how to make them. I'm open for suggestions on improving them, but I do have limited software and skills. For instance, I can't for the life of me get the text to look good.
Last night I worked a little bit on Bob. I'm beginning the shaping on the front, and I noticed that about 8 rows back, I purled when I should have knitted. Normally I would have immediately ripped back those 8 rows, but I remembered Julie talking about the trick Clara showed her about just letting that one stitch run down, fixing it, and then picking them all back up with a crochet hook. It was so easy. I know experienced knitters don't think this is a big deal but to me it was such a revelation! Thank you Clara for showing Julie, and thank you Julie for sharing it on your site.
04 April 2003 I haven't been able to post for the last few days because my host has been down. Knitting-wise I'm at the exact same place I stopped in the last entry on Bob, and no new progress on my socks or the scarf.. Sometimes that's just the way the week goes. Here's a picture of my big sweet dog instead.
02 April 2003 Last weekend was great! We saw the play "Under Milk Wood" by Dylan Thomas at a little place in Midtown called the Thistle Dew Dessert Theatre. It was really a lot of fun. It's called Dessert Theater because dessert and coffee are served at intermission. Such a good idea!
We also had some friends over for dinner on Saturday night and had another great time. My talented artist friend, Kris Marck, made this for me! I love it! Thanks Kris!
I'm moving right along on Bob. I'm done with the decreases and about to start the increases. I'm wondering about the decreases though. The pattern called for the left slanting decrease to be a SKPO. What determines that particular decrease over a SSK? They look about the same, but I started doing the SSK because I thought it looked a little better. Here's a picture.
